Advantages of Swimming More Than Once a Week
When a swimmer is only taking lessons once per week, especially this time of year, there is typically some regression in what was learned in the previous lesson. With constant and consistent practice, as with any sport or activity, muscle memory is developed. Muscle memory is a formed when a movement is repeated over time and eventually allows it to be performed without conscious effort. It is also a key part of learning to swim and plays a big role in safety and what the swimmer will do when faced with an adverse situation.
Increased Strength, Endurance, and Coordination
Swimming works almost every muscle in your body. The more your child is swimming the stronger he/she will be and in return, the longer and more efficient your child's swimming abilities will become.
In order to learn, understand better and become more proficient at anything, we need to integrate the function of both hemispheres of our brain, and movement is the best way to do that! Because each hemisphere of our brain has sensory and motor control of the opposite side of the body, we need to move BOTH sides of our body at once in a rhythmical fashion to facilitate integration --- SWIMMING!
Is your little one stuck in a rut? Or it feels like he/she has been in the same class at the same level for a while now, working on the same skills? Maybe swimming twice a week will give him/her the boost he/she needs to make it to the next level. If you've ever done a make-up lesson and your regularly scheduled lesson in the same week, just a few days apart, you probably noticed BIG improvement in your swimmer that week. Could it have been the day/time/teacher/other kids in the class? Sure, but more than likely it was that he/she was able to use the skills learned twice in one week, therefore that muscle memory was forming, he/she was getting stronger and more coordinated making those movements more efficient and effective.
Succeeding and mastering skills boosts a child's self-esteem! We love to see your child happy and smiling, and the smiles we see when a child overcomes a fear or perfects a skill, are our favorites! We also love seeing you, as a parent, beam with pride when your child gets to move to the next level! We love handing out a new bracelet color and now, we have coupons for a FREE Icedream cone at Chick-Fil-A to sweeten the deal!
