School-Age Program

Age: 6-12 years old

Our School-Age Program is designed for kids ages 6-12. Featuring 7 progressive levels, our program will help your swimmer learn to swim and continue to grow as a swimmer. Our program is filled with developmentally appropriate skills and drills to keep your swimmer challenged and moving forward as they learn to swim or refine their strokes.

What can your swimmer do?

Please read each statement below.  Click the button which best describes your swimmer's ability.

Age: 6-12 years old
Pre-Requisites: None

In "Beginner 1", your child will learn water acclimation and comfort thru a child-centered, activity-oriented approach--coupled with unique skill progressions for the following:

  • First Time Submersion
  • Breath Control up to 10 seconds
  • Front Kicking 
  • Independent back float for 5
  • Independent Kick Glide- 10 feet
  • Independent swim 10-15 feet
  • Safety Jump: Jump, turn, swim back to safety
  • Various safety skills including calling for help, swim with life vest, waiting for permission and more.

Upon mastering the Beginner  skills, your child will advance to Beginner 2 where he/she will continue learn to swim journey with back kicking and learning to breath using a front breath and rollover breath.

Age: 6-12 years old

Pre-Requisites: Swimmers must be comfortable in the water and able to follow a series of directions.  Swimmers must have a 10 second underwater breath hold, be able to swim 8-10 feet independently and back float for 5 seconds independently.

In Beginner 2,  your child will learn to swim a basic Front Crawl Stroke thru a drill-oriented approach--coupled with unique skill progressions for the following: 

  • In-line kicking- 10-15 feet
  • Independent Back Float 10 seconds
  • Independent Back Glide to Back Float
  • Underwater swim with pop up breath- 25 ft.
  • Swim- Float- Swim 25 ft.
  • Safety Jump- Jump, turn, swim, climb out of pool
  • Various safety skills including calling for help, swim with life vest, waiting for permission and more.

Upon mastering the Beginner 2 skills, your child will advance to Advanced Beginner  where he/she will learn to swim the formal strokes of Freestyle with Side Breathing and Backstroke.

If your child is not comfortable submerging in the water or is unable to swim 5ft. independently, please register for a Beginner class.

Age: 6-12 years old

Pre-Requisites: Swimmer’s in the Beginner 3 class must have a basic breath control of 10 seconds, swim 30 feet independently using Front Crawl, Back Kick 20ft and back float independently for 10 seconds.

In Beginner 3, your child will learn to "swim like a fish" thru a child-centered, activity-oriented approach--coupled with unique skill progressions for the following: 

  • Back Finning- 20 feet
  • Freestyle with  "Rolling" Breath- 40 feet
  • Frog Kick on Back 20 feet
  • ​Safety Jump-  Independent Jump, turn, swim, climb out
  • Various safety skills including calling for help, swim with life vest, waiting for permission and more.

Upon mastering the Beginner 3 skills, your child will advance to Advanced Beginner where he/she will learn to swim the formal strokes of Freestyle with Side Breathing and Backstroke.

Age: 5-12 years old

Pre-Requisites: To enroll in Beginner 4, your child should be able to comfortably swim 30 feet using a Rolling Breath and Back Fin 30 feet.

In Beginner 4, your child will learn how to swim the formal strokes of Freestyle with side breathing and Backstroke. The Freestyle Side Breathing skill may be the most important skill one learns in the learn-to-swim process. Beginner 4 is drill-oriented with unique skill progressions for the following:

  • In-line kicking using kick board and independent
  • Back kick refinement
  • Freestyle with Side Breath
  • Backstroke 
  • Endurance Swim: 80ft.
  • Safety Jumps- Independent and without goggles: Jump, turn, swim, climb out to safety.
  • Various safety skills including calling for help, swim with life vest, waiting for permission and more.

Upon mastering the Beginner 4 skills, your child is considered "water competent" and will advance to Swimmer 1 where he/she will work on endurance building and stroke refinement along with being introduced to Breast Stroke and Butterfly components.

Age: 5-12 years old

Pre-Requisites: To enroll in Swimmer 1, your child must be able to swim 25 yards Freestyle with Side Breath, 30 feet of Backstroke and 30 ft. of Whip Kick

In Swimmer 1 your child will continue to learn the advanced skills of Breaststroke and introduction to Butterfly, as well as refine and further develop the Freestyle and Backstroke. A heavy emphasis will be placed on endurance swimming. All "Swimmer" classes are drill and technique-oriented.  In this course, your child will practice the following skills each lesson:

  • Freestyle with side breath refinement & endurance 50 yards
  • Backstroke refinement & endurance- 25yards 
  • Breaststroke 25 yards 
  • Dolphin (Butterfly) Kick 25 yards
  • Intro to Butterfly

Upon Swimmer 1 completion, swimmers would have a general knowledge and endurance for recreational swim team programs.

Age: 6-12 years old

Pre-Requisites: To enroll in "Swimmer 2," your child must be able to swim 50 yards of Freestyle with Side Breath, 25 yards of Back Stroke, 25 yards of Breast Stroke and have an intro to Butterfly kick.

In "Swimmer2,” your child will learn the advanced skill of Butterfly, as well as refine and further develop the Freestyle, Backstroke and Breast Stroke. All classes are drill and technique-oriented.  In this course, your child will practice the following skills each lesson:

  • Freestyle Refinement & Endurance
  • Backstroke Refinement & Endurance
  • Breaststroke Refinement & Timing
  • Butterfly Stroke- 40 feet
  • Turns

Age: 6+ years

Pre-Requisites: To enroll in Swimmer 3 your child must be able to swim Freestyle with Side Breath 75 yards, Back Stroke 50 yards, Breast Stroke 25 yards, Butterfly 10 yards.

In Swimmer 3, your child will learn various skills associated with competitive swimming, stroke refinement and introduce some of the life saving strokes. All Swimmer 3 classes are drill and technique-oriented.  In this course, your child will practice the following skills each lesson:
Freestyle, Back Stroke, Breast Stroke, Butterfly refinement.

  • Endurance Swimming
  • Timing
  • Individual Medley
  • Treading Water

We currently do not have any Swimmer 3 classes offered, but if your swimmer is ready for this level, we have a few great swim teams in the area that we would gladly refer you out to. Happy Swimming!
